Getting a brand new shiny website won’t bring in lots of new business all on it’s own. It needs love and attention to ensure that it performs at its best and meets the business goals you set.
Just like your products or services, they won’t sell themselves. So, it’s important that you make the most of your investment and market your website. There are lots of different factors to consider when marketing your new website. By the end of this blog you should have a clear idea of how to market your new website effectively.
Let’s take a look.
SEO is a process used to increase the visibility of your website within search engines. This process leads to organic results through optimising your website’s pages. How? Well, there are lots of different techniques that you can use to improve your SEO. Search engines work out rankings using many factors. Let’s take a look at these techniques and factors in more detail.
A huge part of SEO is finding keyword phrases that people are likely to search for to find your product or service. When you search for something using a search engine, do you ever go past the first few results? If you don’t, your customers most likely don’t either.
There are many free tools out there that can help you to research and compare the best keywords to use. One tool I like to use is Google Trends. Let’s take a look at an example using one of the services that I offer.
WordPress Website Design is one of my popular services. To ensure that it’s reaching the relevant people, my research includes a few variants of the phrase:
As you can see, Google Trends has shown me that the most popular keyword phrase is WordPress Design. You should run a comparison for each of your website’s pages to ensure that you are using the most relevant phrase. Once you have completed this research, you can then edit your existing content to match!
Another organic way of improving your SEO is to add relevant backlinks to your website. A backlink is a link that one website gets from another. They have a huge impact on a website’s standing in search engine results. Now, don’t fall for a sales pitch from someone who says they can add thousands of backlinks to your site for a small fee. The likelihood of these backlinks being irrelevant or toxic is very high. Undoing all these backlinks at a later date can be a time consuming and frustrating task. So, take the time to do the research into sites that have a good domain authority.
I bet you’re thinking, how on earth do I do this? First, it’s probably best to have a look at what backlinks you already have. SEMRush have an awesome Backlink Audit Tool that will scour the web for any links that come in to your website. This tool will tell you which of the backlinks you already have are toxic so that you can contact the relevant people and remove them.
Once you’ve done this, they also offer a Link Building Tool. You can use this to help you find sites to implement relevant backlinks.
If you haven’t already implemented optimisation on your site, it may take a few months for you to see results. It can seem a daunting and time consuming task at first. But, once you’re over the initial hurdles, organic SEO will have a huge impact on bringing relevant customers to your website.
These two factors are only a scratch on the surface of SEO tactics that you can use to market your new website. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a comment below.
Pay-Per-Click is a marketing strategy that many people use to get instant results. You simply pay a fee for every click that your ad gets within your chosen search engine. The goal is to get those users that have clicked your ad to convert so that you can see a return on your investment. Increasing your website conversions is another topic altogether. You can read my blog about How to Increase Your Website Conversions here.
There’s no minimum spend rule with Google Ads. Don’t just jump in head-first without putting in some time for research though. Just like research for SEO, you should know how your customers are searching for what they need. You could add whatever keywords you like and set it live. Doing this won’t help if you haven’t targeted the correct keywords and you will waste your budget.
Once you have created a list of keywords that you feel are relevant for your campaign, you can use Google Ads Keyword Planner. The keyword planner has options available to help you confirm those keywords. It will show you the data and trends for search volume, cost-per-click and also competitive data. This data will then in-turn help you to decide on your advertising budget based on the estimates for each keyword.
Social Media Marketing helps you to speak to your potential customers. By creating compelling and engaging content you encourage your potential customers to buy.
It’s important that you don’t just create content that will get you a “like” or a “retweet”. You need to create content that will also get people commenting on your posts and tagging their friends. The more your potential customers engage with your social content, the more visible you will become.
Sharing content that leads customers to a recent blog or product update on your site is a great way to remind them of why they visited you in the first place. Not only this, Social Media is a great tool for word-of-mouth marketing. Most people will trust the opinion of a friend or someone they follow. Getting your potential customers to share your posts will increase your engagement.
The brilliance of social media is that, like Google Analytics, you are able to use insights to further improve your strategies. These insights include, what time of day your followers are online; what gender they are and what posts are most popular. This way you can target your content appropriately.
Blogging is a brilliant way to keep your website active and informative. Providing free and original content can make your website stand out above the rest and it helps significantly with SEO. I write monthly blogs of around 1500 words. These blogs help to inform Google that my site is active. They also show that the information that I am freely giving, is relevant to what my website offers. Writing about important topics on your website will establish you as an authority. Getting people to comment and reply to your blogs will only make this case to search engines further.
Blogging helps you to articulate your thoughts and it’s a great way for you to write down what you’ve learned and share it with others. It helps you to become familiar with the subject you’re writing about and also ensures you become a learning tool for others.
Blogging on your own website is excellent but, writing guest blogs on other websites can be even better. As I mentioned in the section on SEO, backlinks are very important for SEO. Writing a blog and providing it Free of Charge to a prominent website online is a proven way to build your domain authority. By adding your website to your signature, you’ll get an extra backlink and hopefully lots of publicity!
Today, we have just touched the surface of how to market your new website. All the above are invaluable tools to help you put your website in-front of the right customers.
As we have already established, your new website won’t market itself. But, using the tactics above should put you on the path to having a successful online presence. You’r website should begin to provide you with a good return on your investment. And, once you’re over the initial hurdles of getting things in place, it will become easier to manage as your experience grows.
If this still all feels like too much of a daunting task to take on alone, I offer a number of services that can help get you started.
