Overview
A website that reflects more than the athlete.
The existing website was ready for a change. The brief was to create a professional online home for Usain’s athletics career, music, foundation and partnerships, with space for his team to keep sharing news.
We worked through the design together, using large photographs and a patterned background to give the site its own character. There was plenty of discussion around the imagery and how the different sections should sit together before I started the development.
I built the website in WordPress, with editable content blocks so the team could change text and images themselves. News and foundation stories have their own sections in the dashboard, making it clear where each type of update belongs.

The details
Keeping the existing content mattered.
A rebuild should not mean losing years of useful content. Moving the existing posts across needed some extra attention because of the older hosting setup. I worked through the import and brought the news and foundation content into the new website.
I also added an Instagram feed to the homepage and a load-more option for older news stories. These give visitors ways to explore both recent updates and the archive without putting everything on one page.

The finished site brings Usain’s different activities together, while giving his team control over the day-to-day content. My involvement continued beyond the build with hosting, maintenance and further website updates.
